The Pell Middletown
Modern coastal bohemian — calming neutral palette, wicker and wood, bold pops of color in the rooms, nautical accents kept tasteful. Light-hearted and energetic rather than buttoned-up. Part of JdV by Hyatt's 'joie de vivre' ethos.

Why It Matters
First JdV by Hyatt property in Rhode Island, and one of the few well-designed boutique options on Aquidneck Island that gives you Newport access without Newport prices or foot traffic. The $9M renovation by A4 Architecture and Stoa Design Collective genuinely transformed the property. A new outdoor pool and deck are set to open Summer 2026.
The Pell opened in April 2023 after a $9 million renovation of a property originally built in 1989 — and it shows in the best way. The rooms are genuinely spacious and bright, with wicker and wood accents that nod to the coastal surroundings without going overboard on the nautical theme. It sits in Middletown, not Newport, which means you dodge the full crush of summer crowds while still being under three miles from the Cliff Walk and Newport Mansions. The on-site restaurant, The Helmway, is a legitimate destination in its own right, drawing on local farms and fishermen for a menu that changes with the seasons. Fair warning: there are no elevators, so if stairs are a problem, plan accordingly.
