Why It Matters
Named Europe's Best City Hotel by Travel + Leisure in 2024 and recipient of The World's 50 Best Hotels' One to Watch Award. It is Turkey's first and only Peninsula property, the 11th in the global portfolio. The three restored buildings — a 1937 Bauhaus-style passenger terminal, a 1912 Art Nouveau edifice (Merkez Han), and a 1910 Arts and Crafts–inspired passenger terminal (Çinili Han) — were landmarks closed to the public for decades before the restoration. GALLADA restaurant, helmed by Turkey's sole two-Michelin-star chef Fatih Tutak, is a destination in its own right.
The Peninsula Istanbul opened on Valentine's Day 2023, occupying four interconnected waterfront buildings in Karaköy — three of them historic, fastidiously restored after decades of abandonment. The fourth is a new extension housing a grand ballroom. Part of the Galataport waterfront regeneration project, the hotel sits right on the Bosphorus with the Ottoman skyline (think Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia domes, Blue Mosque minarets) visible directly across the water. It is, by almost any measure, the finest hotel address in a city already oversupplied with great hotels.

Equipped with full living areas, sofa beds, and — a nice touch — telescopes for gazing at the Old Town rooftops and the Bosphorus from inside the room. Grand views are the whole point here.

No Bosphorus views at this category, but the rooms share all the design DNA: kilim-style carpets, mother-of-pearl desk inlays, Marmara marble bathrooms, and bedside touchscreen controls for lighting, temperature, and window treatments.
