Peninsula London
Contemporary Asian-British luxury. Grand scale, impeccable white-glove service, heavy on bespoke technology (tablets control everything from the drapes to the toilet). Feels like a destination hotel — you could spend three days here without leaving and not feel shortchanged.
The Peninsula Boutique & Café on Grosvenor Crescent is open to the public and gets queues — arrive early for the pastries.
Why It Matters
London's first purpose-built five-star hotel in over a decade, built at a cost exceeding £1 billion. Its rooftop restaurant Brooklands by Claude Bosi earned two Michelin stars in its debut year — the fastest a UK restaurant has ever achieved that distinction. The hotel is also The Peninsula's first property in Europe.
The Peninsula London opened in September 2023 as the city's first billion-pound new-build hotel in over a decade — 30-plus years in the making for the iconic Hong Kong brand. Sitting squarely between Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace at Hyde Park Corner, it's designed by Hopkins Architects to read as distinctly British despite being a wholly modern structure. Inside, Peter Marino's interiors blend contemporary Asian accents with creamy English country-house comfort, and the result is polished but not stiff.
