Cascais train station is literally a 2-minute walk — no need for a taxi from Lisbon

Why It Matters

The most photographed facade in Cascais, with a century-old French-inspired garden that still blooms year-round. The property was Cascais's very first hotel (1985), opened by Manuel, the grandson of the original owner who bought the chalets for his daughters in 1925. The Bougain restaurant — named after the bougainvillea in the garden — is run by the same owner as Lisbon's iconic Café de São Bento, open since 1982.

A 15-room adults-only boutique hotel built inside a pair of restored 1925 family chalets on a cobbled street in central Cascais. The place has real history: in 1985, it became the first tourist accommodation in Cascais — permit number 1 at the Town Hall — and it still feels like a private home rather than a hotel. The original hand-painted tile facade, geometric stone floors, iron staircase with gold trim, and crystal chandeliers are all intact. Rooms are vivid and patterned with bold Portuguese-inspired headboards, and breakfast is always included.
