Why It Matters
Founded by the same owner-designers behind The Giri Residence in Ibiza, the property is one of Ubud's most thoughtfully designed small resorts. Every villa is different — some are restored antique Indonesian houses, some purpose-built infinity-pool villas — and the Ayurvedic spa using Sensatia products sets a high bar for treatments in the area. The 24-hour butler service is genuine and genuinely useful.
About 1.5km outside central Ubud, along the green banks of the Tawar River, The Purist Villas is a small, design-obsessed boutique resort with 18 private villas and suites. Owner-designers Yvonne Hulst and Alberto Cortes built it with Dutch architect Joost van Grieken using an eclectic palette — recycled wood, lava stone, limestone, green river stones, and authentic Indonesian artefacts collected across the archipelago. The result is somewhere that feels genuinely residential rather than hotel-like, with a 24-hour butler, a serious Ayurvedic spa, and a poolside restaurant that earns its own praise.

Two villas set behind natural stone and timber walls, surrounded by bamboo. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors open onto a covered living area around a private infinity pool. Sleeps up to three guests. The most private option in the entry-level pool villa category.
DoubleGarden Suites
Five suites set in a modern Asian-style house. Large sliding doors open onto a private roofed lounge terrace overlooking the pool and garden. Interiors are crafted in limestone and amber with a stone bathtub and separate shower. Each is decorated slightly differently with traditional Balinese elements. No private pool — but the two main communal pools are right there.
DoubleHill Pool Villa
A completely redesigned old Timor Island house spread over two floors, with two bedrooms and a double-height living room. Huge glass doors lead to a covered dining and living area facing a garden with private pool and Balinese gazebo. Combines modernity with classic local furnishings.
Two Double BedsJoglo Villa
The property's largest and most celebrated option. Two bedrooms plus a single room, all en-suite, set on an upper level with panoramic views of jungle and gardens. Features a large ancient joglo (traditional Javanese structure), infinity pool, bamboo gardens, and tropical plants. Ideal for families, groups, or a wedding celebration.
Two Double BedsJungle Pool Villas
Private one-bedroom villas with private pools and dense rainforest views. Large sliding doors flood the space with light and bring in the soundtrack of the nearby river. A solarium deck faces the pool and surrounding jungle. Particularly well-suited to couples wanting maximum privacy.
DoubleRiver Villas
Situated around one of the resort's two main pools. Overwater terraces furnished with lounge beds and surrounded by bamboo let you fall asleep to river sounds. Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms mix minimalist ethnic aesthetics with Balinese signature elements. No private pool.

Three two-bedroom residences — Joglo, Limasan, and Timor — combining modern-style villas with restored antique Indonesian houses. Each has two en-suite master bedrooms, a sofa bed, a large private pool with sun loungers, and tropical gardens. The Limasan features a rose quartz-hued granite bathtub and a stunning infinity pool.
