Book Moss Restaurant and spa treatments well before arrival — both fill up fast, especially on weekends

Why It Matters

It is the only hotel with direct access to the Blue Lagoon's private, guests-only geothermal lagoon — sourced from the same healing waters as the famous public lagoon but without the crowds. Moss Restaurant earned Iceland's first hotel Michelin star in 2023, retained it in 2024 and 2025. The subterranean spa — tunnelled into 800-year-old lava rock — covers over 4,000 sqm and includes a 900-sqm private lagoon.

The Retreat opened in 2018 as the only five-star hotel at Iceland's Blue Lagoon, carved directly into an 800-year-old lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Sixty suites circle a private, guests-only geothermal lagoon — the same mineral-rich water as the public Blue Lagoon, but far quieter. The hotel earned One Michelin Key and houses Iceland's first hotel restaurant with a Michelin star (Moss). Designed by Basalt Architects, it runs entirely on geothermal energy and holds B Corp Certification.
