The Rex
Invisible-service, design-forward outdoor micro-hotel. Think modern cabin meets boutique hotel — not rustic, not fussy. Heavy emphasis on brands, clean lines, and getting outside.
Stock up on groceries before arriving — there's no restaurant on site and the nearest town requires a short drive
Why It Matters
One of the very few design-led, 'invisible service' properties in the Poconos. Selected by both Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Founded by the couple behind United By Blue, so the outdoor-access ethos is genuine — the Boundary Trail trailhead is literally on the property.
The Rex is a 10-unit micro-hotel sitting right on the edge of Promised Land State Park in Greentown, PA — roughly two hours from both NYC and Philadelphia. Brian and Joanna Linton (founders of outdoor brand United By Blue) opened it in August 2021 with one idea: give city dwellers direct access to the Pocono wilderness without giving up the good stuff. Knotty pine construction, subway-tile bathrooms, Birch organic mattresses, Brooklinen sheets, Joybird furniture, Smeg appliances, and Black & Brass local coffee. There's no restaurant, no front desk, no night staff. You check in with a code, do your own thing, and walk directly onto the Boundary Trail from the property.
