The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe
Alpine luxury with a casual mountain spirit. Think stone fireplaces, wood beams, icicle chandeliers, and earth tones — but the vibe in the bars and lounges is relaxed enough that ski boots wouldn't feel entirely out of place. Post-renovation, the design leans harder into Sierra Nevada nature, with hallway carpets mimicking lake-bottom boulders and local artists' work displayed throughout.
The Lake Club is capped at 40 guests per day — book through the concierge as soon as you arrive, or ideally before you get there. It fills up fast in summer.
Why It Matters
The only true ski-in/ski-out luxury hotel in Lake Tahoe. Direct slope access to Northstar California, a 17,000 sq ft slopeside spa, six dining outlets post-renovation, and a private Lake Club limited to just 40 guests per day. Also LEED New Construction certified — unusual for a property at this tier.
The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe sits mid-mountain at Northstar California Resort, the only luxury ski-in/ski-out property in the Tahoe region. First opened in 2006, it just completed a major two-year renovation (finished May 2025) that modernized all 170 rooms and suites with lighter, nature-inspired tones and gas fireplaces in every single room. The actual lake is about 15 minutes away by car, but the hotel bridges that gap with a private beach club on the North Shore, so you get both the mountain and the water.
