The Roseate Reading
Historic grandeur meets contemporary luxury — the original Shire Hall building with restored fireplaces, marble floors, and elaborate woodcarvings, contrasted against the adjacent modern 'The House' wing with clean lines, FLOS lighting, and French balconies.

Why It Matters
The Evening Standard called it the 'UK's most stylish Townhouse Hotel'. Built in 1911 as Berkshire County Council's Shire Hall, it is a listed landmark. The council chamber (Eden) with its original imposing fireplace and carved woodwork is preserved. A rooftop spa with city views, an award-winning afternoon tea, and a restaurant doing serious modern European food all make it stand out well beyond Reading.
A Grade II-listed 1911 Shire Hall building turned into Reading's most serious luxury hotel. The wide hallways, vaulted ceilings, cornice mouldings, and a central lift shaft draped in an Italian chandelier with 86,000 glass beads make the architecture half the experience. The other half is genuinely good service, a proper restaurant, and a rooftop spa. It sits right on Forbury Gardens, in the town centre, 25 minutes by train to London.
