Why It Matters
Two-time Michelin Key recipient (2024 and 2025), the only property in Ontario outside a major city to hold this designation. Also a three-time Condé Nast Travelers' Choice award winner. The building dates to 1879 and was headed for demolition before a decade-long restoration saved it. The hotel owns and operates Edwin County Farms, which supplies organic produce directly to the kitchen.
A meticulous restoration of an 1879 red-brick railroad hotel, The Royal is the anchor of downtown Picton and the most credentialed lodging in Prince Edward County wine country. It holds a Michelin Key for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025) — the only property in Ontario outside a major city centre with that distinction. Thirty-three rooms split across the main heritage building and The Annex, a Scandi-inspired studio wing in a former stable. The food program is serious: executive chef Albert Ponzo runs a farm-to-table kitchen drawing organic produce from the hotel's own Edwin County Farms.

Pet-friendly for a $50 fee.

From CAD619 / nightThe largest Annex room category, also Scandi-inspired and designed for extended stays. Some units have a Juliette balcony (request at booking). The queen sofa bed makes it viable for a family of four. A $50 pet fee applies. Like Bartlett, stair-only access.

Airy and well-proportioned for two, with all the signature finishes — Italian linens, goose down duvet, Dyson hairdryer, Telford bath products. Some Cortland rooms can be combined with an adjacent Empire or Cortland room to form a private two-room suite.

From CAD544 / nightA historic room in the main building that feels like a genuine upgrade. The soaker tub sits prominently in the room beside a bedside fireplace — classic boutique hotel theatre. Sofa bed sleeps two, making it workable for a small family. Can connect with a Cortland for a two-room private suite.
KingRoyal Gala
From CAD744 / nightThe flagship suite and the most expansive room in the hotel. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook The Garden. You get a separate bedroom and living room, two bathrooms (including an en-suite with walk-in shower), a freestanding soaker tub, and a double-sided fireplace you can enjoy from both the lounge and bed. The dining table seats four; the sofa bed sleeps two. Must be booked by phone.
KingRusset

A cedar-clad traditional Finnish dry sauna in the spa area. Included with any spa appointment. Hotel guests can also access it before or after gym sessions.
A curated in-hotel boutique stocked with goods from local County artists and producers — a good way to bring something genuinely local home. Open to guests and walk-in visitors.
A heated saltwater pool (89°F/~32°C) with Jacuzzi jets and covered day beds in the private courtyard. Full drink service on the pool deck. Open April–October, daily from 8am to sunset. For hotel guests and day-pass holders only.
