The Siam
Art Deco meets Indochine fantasy. Black-and-white tiled floors, vintage gramophones, stuffed alligators, Han dynasty pottery, and Bangkok travel posters from another era fill every corner. It's opulent without being corporate, and intimate in a way that Bangkok's mega-hotels simply can't replicate. Think a well-traveled collector's estate rather than a hotel.

Why It Matters
Only 39 rooms on 3 acres of river-front land. Family-owned and designed by Bill Bensley. Michelin 3 Keys. Condé Nast Traveler #1 in Bangkok (2025). Opium Spa has been voted the world's best urban spa by CNT. Has Bangkok's only private pool villas. Comes with butler service, daily breakfast, and a complimentary private speedboat to the city center.
The Siam is a family-owned, 39-suite-and-villa luxury boutique on 3 acres of riverside gardens in Bangkok's historic Dusit district. Designed by Bill Bensley and conceived by hotelier/musician Krissada Sukosol Clapp, it opened in 2012 and has become one of Bangkok's most decorated properties — Michelin 3 Keys, Condé Nast Traveler #1 Hotel in Bangkok 2025, and a World's 50 Best Hotels listing. It sits directly on the Chao Phraya River, flanked by royal palaces, temples, and government buildings, but far from the BTS network — which is kind of the point.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Full Afternoon Tea Set available on weekends (Saturday–Sunday) from 12:00–17:00. À la carte menu on weekdays (Monday–Friday) from 12:00–17:00. Set amidst the hotel's art and antiques collection.
Intimate screening room off the hotel lobby, fitted with classic folding French wood-and-velvet cinema seats. Screens curated films, Thai history clips, and hosts occasional guest speakers. Complimentary for guests in the evenings.
Rare, old-world photographic portrait experience. Images are made entirely by hand using the 19th-century wet plate collodion process. You take home a genuinely unique, handmade portrait — nothing digital about it.
Train in Thailand's national sport with an expert coach in the hotel's own Muay Thai ring. The program is tailored to your skill and fitness level — from curious beginners to serious athletes. Opium Spa even offers a Muay Thai Recovery package if you overdo it.
Sacred Thai yantra tattooing performed by a revered master (Ajarn) brought in from near Wat Bang Phra. This is a serious spiritual practice blending Buddhist teachings with ancient artistry — not a novelty experience. Available at The Siam by arrangement.
Complimentary private speedboat shuttle running on a regular schedule between The Siam's private pier and Sathorn Central Pier (adjacent to Saphan Taksin BTS), 25 minutes downriver. The fastest and most scenic way to connect to downtown Bangkok.
Private luxury cruise along the Chao Phraya River in a traditional Sala Thai-inspired boat at sunset. One of the better ways to see Bangkok — from the water, with a drink, as the temples and palaces light up.
Hands-on Thai cooking school on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. Learn traditional recipes in a personal, small-group setting with the hotel's chefs. A genuine culinary education rather than a tourist performance.
Quiet, eco-friendly luxury electric tuk tuk for a refined journey through Bangkok's historic streets and landmarks in the Dusit district. A vastly more pleasant way to explore than a standard taxi.
Outdoor yoga terrace and guided meditation sessions, available as part of the spa and wellness programme. Also offered as part of multi-day wellness packages.
Amenities & Practical Info
The details that matter for planning.
Full breakfast at Chon Thai Restaurant included with every room category. No buffet — strictly à la carte and beautifully done on the riverside terrace.
Full 24-hour room service menu including Thai cuisine, sandwiches, pasta, and burgers.
Spacious, serene gym overlooking a monastery, with modern fitness equipment and a full-size professional Muay Thai boxing ring. Personal trainers available. Not your typical hotel gym — it actually overlooks a monastery.
Unusually large and lush grounds for an urban Bangkok property. Verdant ferns, tropical gardens, and shaded walkways connecting the various buildings and villas.
Outdoor pool along the river's edge overlooking the Chao Phraya. Guests report it is on the smaller side for a 5-star property, but the river backdrop is spectacular. Bathers Bar is right alongside.
Every guest is assigned a personal butler. They greet you by name on arrival, handle all concierge duties, deliver luggage, arrange experiences, and are available 24/7. Morning and evening butlers rotate. No front-desk check-in required.
On-site retail space featuring Jim Thompson Thai silk and the Bensley Gallery, two iconic brands in residence at Connie's Corner. The hotel's gift shop is also notoriously eccentric — antique paraphernalia, vintage posters, and a cabinet of curiosities.
The hotel has its own dedicated private pier on the Chao Phraya River, used for the complimentary speedboat shuttle and sunset cruises.
