The Slaughters Manor House
Classic English country house with a contemporary interior refresh. Roaring log fires, antique touches, and crisp white linen — relaxed enough for muddy walking boots at check-in but dressed up enough for a proper candlelit dinner.
Book a Garden Suite (Valentine or Magnolia) for the most romantic stay — Valentine has side-by-side roll-top baths, Magnolia has a wet room and its own private garden.
Why It Matters
One of the better-known country house hotels in the Cotswolds, with a restaurant led by Executive Head Chef Nik Chappell — a former fine artist who brings visual precision to his seasonal menus. The property sits on a documented site dating to at least 1004 AD, including a stint as a convent for the Order of Syon from 1443. The original two-storey dovecote still stands in the grounds.
A 17th-century Cotswold stone manor in the centre of Lower Slaughter — one of England's most-photographed villages — that has been a hotel since 1964 and is now owned by Andrew and Christina Brownsword. Nineteen individually named rooms split between the main manor and a courtyard stable conversion, five acres of gardens with redwood and horse chestnut trees, and a restaurant that takes its food seriously without feeling stiff about it. No pool, no spa — but croquet, tennis, billiards, and some very good cocktails more than fill the gap.
