The StandardX doesn't follow the script. Sitting right on the banks of the Chao Phraya in Bangkok's old-town Phra Arthit neighborhood, this 62-room boutique hotel is the self-described 'rebellious younger sibling' of The Standard. Think rotating art exhibitions, a permanent collection of works by Bangkok-based artists like Mr. Kreme and Gongkan, a street-side mural, and rooms that actually have personality. The upgrade that actually matters: this one has a bathtub (the only category with one), a sofabed, and art exclusively by Gongkan. River views are unobstructed. Balcony has outdoor furniture. Still not enormous by Bangkok standards, but the position and finishes earn it.
