The Tanneries Hotel and Spa
Industrial-chic minimalism. Monochrome palette of beige, black, and gray. Concrete, marble, glass, and wood. Quiet and intimate — only 20 rooms means no lobby crowds or elevator waits.
Book the Presidential Suite for the only room with 6m ceilings, two balconies, and a private jacuzzi — it sits on the 3rd floor with the best panoramic sea view in the building
Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels occupying genuine heritage-protected 19th-century tannery buildings in Greece. The old dyeing pits were literally converted into the outdoor Jacuzzi, and an antique well sits under a glass panel in the restaurant floor. It's an architectural conversion project as much as a hotel.
Four heritage-protected stone tannery buildings — dating back to the 1830s — converted into a sleek 20-suite waterfront hotel in Chania's historic Tabakaria district. Every suite faces the Aegean. The bones of the old factories are still very much there: red roof tiles, exposed stone walls, vaulted wood beams, and ceilings up to 6m high. Add a Molteni kitchen, Villeroy & Boch fixtures, and APIVITA spa products to that raw structure, and you get an industrial-meets-minimalist vibe that doesn't feel forced.
