Why It Matters
One of Kazakhstan's most architecturally distinctive hotels, designed by the Italian firm Archea Associati. The building is a recognised landmark on Astana's skyline. It's also the only Small Luxury Hotels of the World member in the city. The four restaurants — including a licensed Cantinetta Antinori franchise and a Cantonese kitchen run by the same Singapore chef for 15 years — make it worth visiting even without a room.
The Veil is a 47-room boutique hotel housed in a sculptural building designed by Italian architecture firm Archea Associati. Sweeping arches, spiralling staircases and abstract furnishings make the public spaces feel like a gallery. Wood panelling and warm ambient lighting stop it from feeling cold.
