A five-star country house hotel just outside Newbury — and no, there is no actual working vineyard on the grounds, though the name earns its keep. The Vineyard has built its entire identity around wine, specifically Californian bottles, with a cellar running into the tens of thousands. Executive Chef Tom Scade holds 3 AA Rosettes, and the hotel displays a serious private art collection throughout. It's a Relais & Châteaux member and Michelin Key holder. Two Grand Suites in the house: La Carrière, located in the oldest part of the original hunting lodge, and Mon Plaisir, with hand-painted wallpaper and views across the grounds. Both come with four-poster beds, his-and-hers sinks, and a freestanding roll-top bath. At 75–80 sqm, these are genuinely spacious. The best rooms in the house.
