Why It Matters
One of only 26 elegantly restored 1920s–30s Republican-era mansions in Nanjing's Heritage Protection Zone, the only UNESCO-awarded heritage conservation project in China that year. Member of Relais & Châteaux since 2014. Two on-site restaurants — Le Siècle and Wan Guo Chun Garden Restaurant — appear in the MICHELIN Guide.
Twenty-six Republican-era villas tucked along Nanjing's maple-lined Yihe Road — each one once a private residence for China's military and political elite in the 1920s and '30s. The whole complex has been meticulously restored and opened as a hotel, winning the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Conservation Award in 2014. Rooms are generous and quiet, interiors blend lacquered wood and Iran green marble with antique ceramics and original art, and the grounds feel entirely removed from the city around them.
