Timber Cove Resort
Rustic-modern hippie chic. Think one part Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired architecture, one part California coastal commune. Crosley record players, worn leather, heritage fabrics, and a 93-foot peace obelisk on the cliff. It's social in the great room, solitary on the trails.
Ask the front desk to borrow the on-site telescope on clear nights — stargazing from the bluff is exceptional.
Why It Matters
The on-site Bufano Peace Statue Monument — a 93-foot obelisk designed by San Francisco sculptor Beniamino Bufano in 1962 — is literally California's second smallest State Park, located right on the resort grounds. The property's setting on the Sonoma Coast was a favorite of Ansel Adams. No pool, but you won't miss it.
A 1963-built clifftop resort on 25 acres above the Sonoma Coast, 14 miles north of Jenner. Renovated in 2016 with warm timber beams, stonework, and mid-century modern touches, it keeps the bones of the original structure while adding real comfort. Cell service is essentially nonexistent up here — the resort leans into that. Vinyl record players in every room, a great room full of board games, and two miles of hiking trails on the property do a better job of making you unplug than any 'digital detox' marketing ever could.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A 93-foot obelisk sculpture designed by San Francisco artist Beniamino Bufano in 1962, commissioned by Timber Cove's original owner. The state acquired the 60-foot plot around it in 1982, making it California's second smallest State Park — right on the resort grounds. Worth a slow walk around.
Complimentary champagne during sunset hours on Saturdays, included in the resort fee.
Complimentary wine tastings with local Sonoma wineries hosted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Great Room, included in the $40 resort fee.
Open daily 9AM–8PM. State-of-the-art equipment including a Peloton bike. Towels and water provided. Private or group yoga sessions available — inquire with the front desk.
Local artists perform live music in the Great Room lobby every Wednesday night. Included in the $40 resort fee.
The adjacent Timber Cove Boat Landing beach is accessible from the resort — a black sand/pebble cove at sea level. Good for beachcombing and tide pool exploration.
Over 2 miles of hiking trails across the 25-acre property. Head down toward the cove, follow the cliff edge to the furthest point, or find one of the benches strategically placed for whale watching. Guides available upon request.
The Sonoma Coast's isolation means genuine dark skies. Resort suites come with binoculars. A telescope is available for loan from the front desk on clear nights — ask at check-in.
An ocean-view fire pit on the cliff edge — the prime sunset spot on the property. Fireside drinks from the Coast Kitchen menu. S'mores included in the resort fee on Friday evenings (weather permitting).
Billiards, ping pong, foosball, and oversized chess in the outdoor covered patio area adjacent to the Great Room. Fire pit at the center. Closes at 9pm daily. Paddles, balls, and cues available from the front desk.
An on-site scavenger hunt across the ocean-view property for both adults and children. Included in the resort fee.
Crosley LP record players in every room paired with an extensive vinyl library. Additional records available from the Great Room.
