Tortuga Bay, Puntacana Resort & Club
Plantation-style Caribbean luxury with a distinctly quiet, private-enclave feel. Low-density, unhurried, and light on flash — the kind of place where couples and honeymooners vanish for a week and barely leave the beach. Not a party resort.
The Two-Bedroom Suite sits on the ground floor with direct beach access — a better pick than the Junior Suite upstairs if beach proximity matters to you.
Why It Matters
The only AAA Five Diamond property and the only Leading Hotels of the World member in the entire Dominican Republic. Every suite was designed by Oscar de la Renta and later renovated by Markham Roberts. Guests get VIP airport treatment — private customs escort, dedicated transfer, and a personal Embajador (villa ambassador) waiting at the door.
Tortuga Bay is a 30-suite boutique enclave carved out of the vast Puntacana Resort & Club on the Dominican Republic's eastern coast. The 13 villas were designed by Oscar de la Renta — a native of Santo Domingo — and overhauled in 2017 by New York interior designer Markham Roberts. It's the only AAA Five Diamond hotel in the Dominican Republic and the sole Leading Hotels of the World member in the country, which tells you exactly where it sits on the local luxury ladder.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Two distinct courses share the same property. La Cana (27 holes, P.B. Dye) has been called the top course in the Caribbean by Golf Magazine — 14 of its holes run along the ocean. Corales (18 holes, Tom Fazio, opened 2010) is set between coral reefs, rocky cliffs, and Caribbean Sea views, and hosts a PGA TOUR event. Caddies are required at Corales ($40/cart + tip), optional at La Cana.
Guided walk along the Sparrowhawk Trail to the Bird Observation Tower. Migratory birds and the endemic Ridgway Hawk are the main draws.
A behind-the-scenes eco tour of the resort's sustainability initiatives — the first time it has been opened to hotel guests.
A guided tour of the 1,500-acre reserve donated to the Puntacana Foundation. Stops include the Apiary, YAUYA store, and a swim in the Inriri Lagoon (one of 12 natural freshwater lagoons on the property). You can spot endemic Rhinoceros Iguanas and Ridgway Hawks. Requires advance reservation.
Complimentary cruiser bikes for all guests to explore the resort's extensive bike and travel path network.
Helicopter tours offering panoramic views of the Punta Cana coastline and interior. Arranged through your Embajador.
Guided Segway tours through the resort's natural surroundings. Arranged through your Embajador.
Full equestrian facility with 20 horse stalls, two riding arenas, two paddocks, and a round pen. Beach rides available. Pony rides for children at the adjacent Petting Zoo.
Hands-on polo instruction with experienced coaches. One-hour lessons or full courses and packages available. Open stables, practice fields, and direct interaction with polo horses.
Ten courts across clay, har-tru, and grass surfaces, plus four paddle courts and two pickleball courts. On-site pro shop, snack bar, and coaching programs for all ages and skill levels.
Relaxed evening boat cruise at sunset. Arranged through your Embajador from the resort's full-service marina.
Complimentary non-motorized sports include kayaking. Paid options available through the resort include snorkeling, scuba diving (including wreck diving), windsurfing, and kiteboarding. All arranged via your Embajador.
