Trumbull & Porter
Detroit-proud artisan boutique. Industrial heritage meets local arts scene. Think exposed brick sensibility, commissioned murals, and a lobby you could spend an hour exploring. Not flashy — grounded and genuinely local.
Request a room with a private patio — several standard rooms have them, and it's a real upgrade for the price
Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in Detroit actively embedded in the local arts and music community. The building's history traces back to an infamous cockfight (the 'Red Dunn'), and a poet's verse is painted above the porte-cochère. Over 52 local artists contributed to the interiors, and the hotel partners with InsideOut Literary Arts to support youth poets citywide.
Trumbull & Porter started life in 1964 as a Holiday Inn, became the Corktown Inn, and got a serious boutique makeover in 2017. A full renovation wrapped up in 2024. The result: 144 rooms dressed in custom furniture built by Michigan artisans, walls packed with work from over 52 local artists, and a courtyard with a kettle bonfire that doubles as a live music stage. This is Corktown's most prominent hotel — industrial past, arts-forward present.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Work from over 52 local Detroit artists and companies is displayed throughout the hotel — from commissioned large-scale murals to custom furniture. A poet's verse from the late David Blair runs along the lobby walls with a full mural above the porte-cochère. No guided tour, but the lobby itself is worth an hour.
Bicycle rentals from Detroit Bikes available on-site. A good way to explore Corktown, the Riverwalk, and surrounding neighborhoods without a car.
The hotel's courtyard hosts a rotating calendar of live music performances and entertainment events, mostly during warm months. Many events are free to the public. Features a kettle bonfire and a dedicated stage. Check the hotel's event calendar before your stay.
On-site game room available for guests.
