Canvas Mount Rushmore
Safari-inspired upscale glamping with an outdoor adventure basecamp ethos. Think West Elm furnishings, organic bath products, and wood-burning stoves — paired with zero cell reception and nightly s'mores around an open fire.
Book the Stargazer tent for the ceiling window — best on a clear night when the Milky Way is visible from bed
Why It Matters
Back-to-back 'Best Hotel in The World' wins from Travel + Leisure (2022, 2023) and a 'Top Resorts in the Midwest' nod from Condé Nast Traveler (2023). The only place you can sleep under the stars within eyeshot of Mount Rushmore's illuminated monument, on a real gold mining site no less.
Under Canvas Mount Rushmore is a seasonal luxury glamping camp (late April through late September) on an original gold mining settlement less than four miles from Mount Rushmore National Monument. Seventy-four safari-style canvas tents sit among ponderosa pines and juniper in the Black Hills, with daytime views of the carved presidents and Milky Way skies at night. No WiFi, no electrical outlets in tents — that is entirely the point. It won Travel + Leisure's 'Best Hotel in The World' two years running (2022 and 2023).
