Upper House Hong Kong
Minimalist, residential, and quietly confident. Think pared-back luxury rather than showy opulence. Bamboo, limestone, and warm stone tones dominate. Thomas Heatherwick's brutalist Stone Curtains façade makes a striking first impression at street level. The crowd skews international, design-conscious, and business-chic.
Book a harbour-view room if budget allows — the island-view Studios have better feng shui according to Mr & Mrs Smith, but harbour views from the soaking tub are the defining Upper House moment.
Why It Matters
Ranked #10 on The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025 list (and #5 in 2024), it is the debut hotel project of acclaimed Hong Kong designer André Fu. It holds 2 Michelin Keys and was voted No.1 by Condé Nast Traveler UK readers in 2025. Its paperless check-in was pioneering for its time, and the complimentary Maxi Bar — free everything except wine — remains a fan favourite.
Upper House Hong Kong sits on floors 38 to 49 above Admiralty's Pacific Place, and it operates more like a private residence than a hotel. André Fu designed the interior around the concept of an 'upward journey' — warm oak tones, limestone bathtubs, floor-to-ceiling windows, and over 400 commissioned artworks. With 117 rooms starting at 730 sq ft, it has the largest entry-level rooms in Hong Kong. No pool, no traditional spa, but the rooms are so generous you barely notice.
