Why It Matters
One of the few properties in the Catskills that nails the 'genuinely rustic but actually luxurious' balance without feeling forced. It landed on the 2021 Condé Nast Traveler Hot List, has an award-winning restaurant, and features a genuinely unique Estonian sauna + cold plunge + treenet combo that most mountain lodges don't bother with.
Built in 1898 as the Alpine Inn, Urban Cowboy Lodge & Resort has grown into a 200-acre wilderness escape in the Big Indian Wilderness, sandwiched between Slide Mountain and the Esopus Creek. The rustic cowboy aesthetic isn't a theme slapped over something generic — it's the whole point. Think copper clawfoot tubs, hand-printed wallpaper, Pendleton robes, cast iron stoves, and vinyl records drifting through common spaces. The lodge has expanded significantly in recent years after acquiring the adjacent Slide Mountain Inn, now totaling 42 rooms across 13 named buildings.

Alpine Bathing Suite
The signature room. A freestanding copper clawfoot tub sits in front of a large picture window overlooking mountain and forest views. Cast iron stove for warmth, private outdoor deck, heated bathroom floors, and walk-in shower. This is the room that made Urban Cowboy's reputation. Adults 21+ only.
KingAlpine Bathing Suite with Den
One-of-a-kind suite in the Alpine House — there is only one of this style. Features a copper clawfoot tub and a custom built-in chaise lounge den area beside a roaring cast iron stove. Private deck with long views, heated bathroom floors, walk-in shower. 21+ only.
KingAlpine Penthouse Bathing Suite
Largest of the Alpine suites. Perched high above the property with funky dormered ceilings, exposed beams, and a balcony built for two. Still has the signature copper clawfoot tub and built-in gas fireplace. Leather loveseat, heated floors, walk-in shower. 21+ only.

Top of the four-floor Main Lodge building. Vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the property, a copper clawfoot tub, practically palatial double-headed rain shower, wet bar, dining area, and oversized leather furniture. Two private entrances, deck furnished for two+. Flagship splurge room.
KingLodge Two-Bedroom Suite
Located right above the main Lodge. One king bedroom and one queen bedroom sharing a full bathroom. Private deck, willow sculpture, walk-in shower. Ideal for two couples or a family wanting separate sleeping spaces. Family and dog friendly.
King + QueenThe Cabin
A proper standalone cabin in the woods — not attached to any building. 600 square feet with an open layout: copper clawfoot tub, rain shower, leather loveseat, dining table. Enameled cast iron gas fireplace, minibar, custom wallpaper. Best porch on the property, per the staff. Family and dog friendly.

A room in the historic Main Lodge building. Great for skiers and hikers who just want comfortable proximity to everything the lodge offers. Thoughtfully decorated with a one-of-a-kind willow sculpture and hand-printed wallpaper. Walk-in shower, minibar. Family friendly.
KingWalden Forest Bathing Suite with Den
Walden's flagship suite. The outdoor Japanese cedar soaking tub on your private deck — surrounded by trees and ferns — is the main event. Comes with a custom lounge den area inside. No dogs allowed in this specific room type. 21+ only.
KingWalden King
The entry-level Walden room. Classic cabin feel with forest views from a private deck. No soaking tub, but all the signature Cowboy touches remain: hand-printed wallpaper, Pendleton robes, Wright mattress. Good choice if soaking tubs aren't your thing and you want to save some money. 21+ only.
KingWalden Sunrise Bathing Suite
Extra square footage and some of the best mountain views on the property. A diamond-shaped window and an outdoor cedar soaking tub on the private porch for sunrise soaks. Pair of leather loungers inside. 21+ only, dog friendly.

Two lanes of old-school bowling at Ralph's Bar & Bowling. Classic setup — no fancy digital scoring, just proper gutter balls and cold beer.
4,000 feet of Esopus Creek frontage on the property, used as a swimming hole and for fishing. The creek runs right through the lodge grounds.
Six established hiking trails on the 200-acre property, including paths that lead to the summit of Slide Mountain — the highest peak in the Catskills. Miles of trails through the Big Indian Wilderness, the longest stretch of uninterrupted virgin forest in the Catskills.
Outdoor pool open during warm weather, located next to Ralph's Bar & Bowling. Hours approximately 9am–7pm.
A traditional Estonian-style sauna on property, followed by a dip in the spring-fed swimming hole. The combo is a highlight for guests and a genuinely authentic sauna experience.
