URSO
Grand historic bones, modernist interior design. Serious but not stuffy. The kind of place where the lobby bar has live piano and proper bartenders who'll make you a bespoke Bloody Mary.

Why It Matters
Madrid's first luxury boutique hotel, set inside a genuinely magnificent 1915 palace. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Virtuoso, and Serandipians. The spa was also billed as Madrid's first branded luxury hotel spa. Rooms on the upper floors look over the old gardens of Palacio Villagonzalo.
URSO is a 5-star boutique hotel occupying a 1915 palace that was originally the Madrid headquarters of Papelera Española. The neoclassical exterior — towers, chamfered corners, stained-glass façade — gives way to interiors that mix the original marble floors, wood-panelled walls, and a spectacular central patio with honey-toned hardwood floors, drum lampshades, and thoroughly modern seating. It was Madrid's first luxury boutique hotel, and it still punches above its weight in a city that now has plenty of competition.

How you'll actually spend your days.
In-house concierge team curates local experiences and provides tourist information and ticket services. The hotel's 'Great Plans' page lists curated local activities and day trips.
Daily Spanish-British merienda hybrid served in the Lobby Bar: mini sandwiches, traditional pastries from a Madrid bakery, and a curated tea selection. A thoughtful nod to both British and Spanish afternoon traditions.
Traditional Madrid cocido (chickpea stew) served every Sunday at Casa Felisa restaurant. A weekly ritual for lovers of classic Madrid cuisine.
Live piano music in the Lobby Bar, several evenings per week. A proper in-house pianist — not background playlist music. Multiple guests flag this as a highlight of stays.
Saturday, Sunday, and holiday brunch in The Conservatory, served under the stained-glass skylights with live musical accompaniment. Open to non-guests.
