Why It Matters

Vale d'Azenha sits on a hilltop outside Alcobaça, a sharp-angled modern building that looks nothing like the old chalet hotels or converted monasteries most visitors settle for. Opened in 2015, it has 25 units — rooms, suites, and six freestanding villas — all with floor-to-ceiling windows, wood-paneled walls, and private terraces facing the rolling hills toward the sea. Single Room
Compact room with countryside views and a private terrace. Decorated around a local plant species that anchors the whole aesthetic. Wood paneling, neutral tones, and the essentials done well.
Suite
More space, more sophistication. The suites have a proper separate living area with a sofa bed (accommodates an extra adult or child), and the decor gets more editorial — think bold color accents against the wood paneling. Some have scarlet red pops. Views of the surrounding flora are the real selling point.
Twin Room
Same layout and amenities as the Double Room but configured with two separate beds. Good for friends or families traveling together.
TwinVilla Deluxe
Six freestanding villas, each named after a local fruit tree: Figueira (Fig), Laranjeira (Orange), Nogueira (Walnut), Oliveira (Olive), Romanzeira (Pomegranate), and Limoeiro (Lemon). The tree theme carries through the interior design. Each villa has a full kitchen, its own outdoor terrace, a living room, and private outdoor space. These are fully pet-friendly — the only accommodation type at the hotel that accepts animals.
