Now a Michelin Guide-listed Relais & Châteaux with an architect-designed winery spa, a Michelin-recommended restaurant, and direct access to the Santar Vila Jardim garden circuit — five private gardens that opened their walls to create a continuous walkable route through the village.
Valverde Santar Hotel & Spa is a 21-room luxury property in the 17th-century Casa das Fidalgas, a baronial manor that spent decades as a royal residence before a painstaking four-year restoration turned it into a Relais & Châteaux hotel. You're in the Dão wine region between the Estrela and Caramulo mountains, surrounded by 4 hectares of vineyards and 3 hectares of formal garden designed by Fernando Caruncho — the nearest city is Viseu, 17km away, and tourists rarely venture this far into central Portugal. The formal salons still have gilded chandeliers, original oil paintings and hand-carved woodwork, while the old winery is now a 700sqm spa, and the mansion's original library doubles as the breakfast room.

Housed in the original wine-pressing room of Casa das Fidalgas, right next to the spa. Around 42sqm with a king bed, separate living room, and bathtub. The location inside the old winery gives it a genuinely different feel from the main building rooms.
