Villa Arnica
Aristocratic Italian villa meets Slim Aarons poolside ease — nostalgic but never stuffy. The crowd reads Monocle, buys Aesop, and would happily spend a full afternoon by the pool doing absolutely nothing.
Book the Sunday Poolhouse Grill in advance — it runs June to September only and fills up fast with guests.
Why It Matters
German Design Award Winner 2022. Member of Design Hotels and Tablet Hotels. One of only ten guests at any given time — the entire villa can also be booked as a private hire. Owned and run by the Dissertori family, who have quietly assembled some of South Tyrol's most design-forward properties.
A 1925 Italian villa in the heart of German-speaking Lana, South Tyrol — fully restored and adults-only. Ten rooms total, each with a unique layout thanks to the original architect's attention to flow. Think thick vaulted ceilings, herringbone oak floors, terrazzo tiles, plush velvets, and antique midcentury furniture from the 50s and 60s, all brought together by Merano's Studio Biquadra. The pool is guests-only and has original 1965 tiles. There's no full restaurant on-site, but the poolhouse feeds you well from the kitchen garden, and sister property 1477 Reichhalter is three minutes on foot for proper dinner.

How you'll actually spend your days.

Organized guided hikes offered 2–3 times per week through the Schwarzschmied activity program. The Vigiljoch mountain at 1,700m is the go-to for trails.
The local mountain of Lana at 1,700m, reachable by cable car from the village. Skiing in winter, wildflower hiking in summer. One of the most recommended day trips from the villa.

Every Sunday evening from June to September, the chef grills freshly harvested vegetables from the Arnica Acker alongside local butcher's meat. Guests dine together at a long garden table — one of the more genuinely memorable things you can do here.
The entire villa (all 10 rooms) can be exclusively reserved for private events or group stays.
Slow-cooking classes available as part of the spa and recreation programming, per Design Hotels listing.
Complimentary pickup and drop-off from Lana/Burgstall train station — the hotel actively encourages arriving by train.
