Villa Cicolina
Country-chic aristocratic relais. Period antiques alongside modern comfort. Intimate, lived-in, and genuinely historic rather than themed.
The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays — check which night upon arrival so you're not caught off guard
Why It Matters
Centuries-old ceiling frescoes and coats of arms in the public rooms, an infinity pool perched on the hillside with valley panoramas, and a 14th-century wine cellar with a preserved Etruscan tomb below. The restaurant uses produce from the villa's own kitchen garden and DOP olive oil from its own trees.
A 16th-century noble country residence sitting about 3km outside Montepulciano, surrounded by working olive groves and vineyards. Purchased in 2000 by two physicians who restored it with total conservation of original furnishings, frescoes, and materials — inspired by the aesthetic of African lodges. Just 14 rooms and suites, open seasonally from late March through late October.
