Villa Cora
Grand aristocratic villa with layered 19th-century interiors: frescoed ceilings, four-poster beds, Moorish-domed dining rooms, and a mirror-lined hall you'll want to just sit in. It reads more like a private palazzo than a hotel.
Book dinner at Le Bistrot — the tasting menu in the Moorish Room in winter (with original Antonio Caremmi frescoes) is a full experience on its own
Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in Florence with a heated outdoor pool — a genuinely rare thing in the city. The property is a Leading Hotels of the World member, Michelin-recognized (2024), and has an almost absurd roster of historic guests. The underground spa BENé sits beneath Villino Eugenia, accessible via tunnel from the main villa.
Villa Cora is a 19th-century neoclassical mansion on the Oltrarno hillside, built for Empress Eugenie and later a gathering point for the likes of Tchaikovsky, Grace Kelly, and Japanese Emperor Akihito. Designed by architect Pietro Camparini and reopened as a luxury hotel in 2010 after a meticulous restoration, it holds 43 rooms spread across three historic structures: the main Villa, the Villino Eugenia, and Le Follie. It sits a short, pleasant walk from central Florence — close to the Boboli Gardens and Piazzale Michelangelo — yet feels entirely removed from the tourist crowds.
