Vill
Quietly confident French luxury. Art deco gestures, Japanese influences, Japanese toilets, Carrara marble bathrooms, and circular Anamorphosis artworks by Normandy artist Charles Maze in every room. Feels more like a private home than a grand hotel — intentionally intimate, serene, and a little otherworldly up on the hill.
Request a city-view room explicitly — garden-view rooms are beautiful and peaceful, but the city panorama at night is something else entirely.
Why It Matters
The only 5-star hotel in Lyon to carry both Leading Hotels of the World membership and Green Key certification. The design pedigree (Wilmotte + Grange + Benech) is genuinely rare — Jacques Grange previously worked on the homes of Yves Saint Laurent and Princess Caroline of Monaco. The spa is built on the actual site of Roman thermal baths discovered during construction. The owner's Beaujolais vineyard, Château de La Chaize, adds a wine-country dimension unavailable at any other city hotel.
Villa Maïa opened in March 2017 on Fourvière Hill — the former Antiquaille site where Roman baths once stood — and it has since become Lyon's most design-forward luxury address. Three French heavyweights collaborated to build it: architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte on the structure, Jacques Grange on the interiors, and landscape artist Louis Benech on the gardens. The result is 34 rooms and suites done in grey, beige and cream with unexpected pops of colour, a 20-metre indoor pool built directly above the original Roman mosaic floor, and panoramic views that stretch on a clear day all the way to Mont Blanc.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A conference room for up to 15 people with views overlooking the city. Made-to-measure setup for business meetings or private events.
The concierge team is widely praised in guest reviews for genuinely insider knowledge of Lyon's dining, cultural and neighbourhood scene. Worth using as a resource for bouchon restaurant reservations, museum tips and neighbourhood walks.
Concierge-arranged orientation walk through Lyon's famous covered market, Les Halles Paul Bocuse — the best introduction to what makes Lyon France's so-called gastronomic capital.
The Maïa Group owns Château de La Chaize, a historic 400-acre Beaujolais estate built in 1676 and designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre (the same duo behind Versailles). The hotel can arrange a visit, wine tasting and picnic on the estate, about 30 minutes outside Lyon.
