This is the former private residence of Prince Leopold of Prussia, brother-in-law to German Emperor Wilhelm II. Perched on the Collina d'Oro — the Golden Hill — above Lake Lugano, it's been a Relais & Châteaux member since 2000. The hotel holds 37 all-suite rooms with marble finishes and lake or garden views, a Michelin-listed gourmet restaurant (La Luce) run by Executive Chef Cristian Moreschi, the intimate DOT SPA, and a shell-shaped outdoor pool set in a lemon grove. It's not in the center of Lugano but provides complimentary shuttle service — and frankly, the elevated hillside location is the whole point.
