Why It Matters
One of the first hotels built in south Palm Springs (1947), Villa Royale sits in the same neighborhood where studio-contract actors escaped LA under the "two-hour rule." The 2018 renovation kept the bones and added serious design muscle, including a curated art collection and a restaurant with works by Damien Hirst and Anish Kapoor on the walls. Three pools, all with San Jacinto Mountain views. Adults-only, no-cash policy, and a virtual concierge named Paige.
A Palm Springs fixture since 1947, Villa Royale is an adults-only (21+) California ranch-style property spread across 3.5 acres of walled grounds in the quieter Deepwell Estates neighborhood. It started as a Hollywood escape — Mickey Rooney and screenwriter Irving Shulman were regulars — and reopened in 2018 after a full renovation that leaned hard into the history rather than erasing it. The result is 38 individually styled villas loaded with original commissioned artwork, Portuguese and Spanish tile, in-room cocktail parlors, and a genuinely excellent on-site bar and restaurant called Del Rey.

The entry-level room at Villa Royale. Set right by the pool with mountain views, and ideal for solo travelers or short stays. Cozy rather than spacious — the trade-off is a great price and direct pool access. Features a dry bar, glass-enclosed shower, and the same bold art-forward aesthetic as every room on property.

Continental
The most atmospheric room in the main building. Gas-burning fireplace in the living room, dry bar, separate king bedroom, and walls accented with Portuguese tile and large-format photo-realistic oil paintings by Spanish artist Juan Antonio Casas. An expansive patio beside the communal hot tub and Hummingbird Garden is a serious bonus.

ADA-accessible version of the DeVille. Same king bed and dry bar, plus a private patio and a floor-to-ceiling tiled roll-in shower designed for full accessibility.

Located just across the street from the main hotel at Villa Rosa — a 1950s apartment complex with its own private pool and separate entrance. More secluded and quieter than the main building. The Capri here is stylish and comfortable, with authentic mid-century modern decor.

Bright and chic suite at the Villa Rosa building across the street. Offers the same king bed + separate living space format as the main building Impala, but in the quieter, more private Villa Rosa setting with its own pool.
