Ville d'Hiver
Warm, art-forward boutique with a family-run feel. Regular returning guests, resident artists and authors, natural wine list, and Dr. Hauschka spa treatments. Smart but never stiff.
The annexe Lilas Blanc is 100 meters from the main hotel — ask for a main building room if proximity matters to you
Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in France occupying a 19th-century industrial water-pumping station. The pool is literally the old factory water tank. Listed on Tablet Hotels and Michelin Guide. The restaurant is considered one of Arcachon's best by locals.
A former 1884 water-pumping station for the Compagnie Générale des Eaux, converted into an 18-room boutique hotel in 2009 by owners Olivier and Nathalène Arnoux. The building is genuinely unusual — striped columns, archways, red tile roof — somewhere between a Moorish mosque and an Italian villa, sitting in a garden in Arcachon's protected historic Ville d'Hiver district. The restaurant draws loyal locals in its own right, the pool occupies the old water tank, and the whole place feels like someone's very well-traveled home rather than a hotel.
