Why It Matters
One of only a handful of licensed lodges on the Moditlo Wildlife Estate, and the only Tablet Hotels selection in the reserve. The all-inclusive pricing is genuinely unusual for a private Big Five reserve at this level — competitors at similar addresses charge two to three times more.
Vuyani is a 10-suite, fully all-inclusive boutique safari lodge on the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve (38,000+ acres) near Hoedspruit, directly adjacent to Kruger National Park. Rustic thatched exteriors hide marble bathrooms and serious creature comforts inside, and rates that undercut almost every comparable private-reserve lodge make it the closest thing to a secret in South African safari travel. Two game drives daily, all meals and drinks, conservation fees, and a Hoedspruit airport transfer are all wrapped into the per-person nightly rate.

A relaxed afternoon barge trip on the glass-like lake at the bottom of the world's third-largest canyon (and the only green canyon). Option to add a hike. Hippos, waterfalls, and canyon walls. In-between game drives.
An afternoon trip to an elephant sanctuary in Hazyview — not a commercial elephant show but a legitimate care and conservation facility. Guests can touch, feed, and ride the elephants with dedicated guides. Important: this facility prioritises animal welfare and is not comparable to exploitative elephant attractions.
Horseback safari activity in-between game drives. One or two-hour options available.
Depart the lodge at 5am, drift silently above the Hoedspruit area with mountain and savannah views. Real chance of spotting game from altitude. Misses one morning game drive.
Take off from Hoedspruit Airfield for a 30-minute or 1-hour microlight flight over wildlife reserves and the Drakensberg or Blyde Canyon. Bring a camera with a strap.
Canopy zip-lining through the trees and over creeks at Hazyview. Not for the faint-hearted. Misses one game drive.
Accompanied by a Vuyani guide, guests enter over 5 million acres of Kruger National Park via the Orpen Gate. Full day includes meals in the park. Half-day option available for groups of 6+. You will miss two regular game drives.
A morning trip to a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Hoedspruit. Guided 2–2.5 hour tour of the facility, where you can meet temporary and permanent residents including cheetahs, honey badgers, eagles, and vultures. Guests sleep in and miss one morning game drive.
Two guided game drives depart daily in open 4x4 safari vehicles — 6am and 4pm. The Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve covers 38,000+ acres of Big Five territory including lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, hippos, cheetahs, wild dogs, brown hyenas, and nearly 400 bird species. Included in the all-inclusive rate.
A romantic private picnic lunch at one of the reserve's remote lakes, reached by private game drive in a fully restored 1960s Land Rover named Jock. One of the more charming low-key options available in-between game drives.
A full-day sightseeing road trip along the Drakensberg mountain range, stopping at God's Window, the Three Rondavels, waterfalls, the Pinnacle, and the town of Graskop for lunch and curio shopping. You will miss two regular game drives.
A lunch trip to the Nyani Cultural Village featuring dance displays, local markets, and traditional food.
Use of the lodge's telescope to observe the night sky. The reserve has minimal light pollution, making for exceptionally clear views of the southern African sky. Complimentary.
