Waldhotel Arosa
Traditional alpine warmth meets modern mountain resort. The old building fabric gives some rooms genuinely impressive proportions. Family-friendly but serious about wellness and food — 75% of guests come back.
Book half-board — the 5-course dinner is included, and the wine list runs to 450 bottles. Buying dinner separately elsewhere costs more.
Why It Matters
One of the few properties in the Swiss Alps that genuinely delivers for both families and couples — supervised kids' club in winter, adults-only spa zone, ski-in/ski-out directly from the hotel, and a Gault Millau 16-point restaurant (Restaurant 7050/Kachelofa-Stübli). Over 100 years of hotel history in the building, with rooms that benefit from the generous proportions of a former sanatorium.
A 4-star superior hotel that started life as a sanatorium in 1910 and converted to a hotel in 1932, the Waldhotel Arosa sits at 1,775 metres above sea level in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The property spans two buildings: the traditional Waldhotel wing, heavy on pinewood, oak, and slate, and the modern Chesa Silva wing, with oak parquet floors and a more contemporary alpine feel. The real draws here are a 1,800 m² spa split between a proper adults-only zone and a family pool area, ski-in/ski-out access to the Arosa Lenzerheide ski area via two adjacent mountain railways, and a Gault Millau 16-point restaurant.
