Astoria Bangkok
Contemporary Thai meets Art Deco New York — restrained elegance in the rooms, dramatic maximalism up top. Feels more polished corporate-luxury than warmly Thai, which is either a plus or a minus depending on what you're after.
Ask for a park-view room — you'll look directly over the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, with its horse racing track, cricket pitch, and 9-hole golf course visible through floor-to-ceiling windows
Why It Matters
One of Bangkok's few hotels where the architects — André Fu and AvroKO — are genuinely worth talking about. The rooftop steakhouse Bull & Bear sits on the 55th floor above the entire city. All 171 rooms start at 50 sqm with full marble bathrooms and Aesop amenities, which is simply the standard here, not an upgrade.
The Waldorf Astoria Bangkok occupies floors 6 through 16 of a 60-story mixed-use tower in Ratchaprasong, with dining venues dramatically perched on floors 55 to 57. Hong Kong architect André Fu designed the rooms and interiors — Carrara marble, soaring ceilings, rich woods, and bronze accents throughout. New York studio AvroKO took care of the rooftop restaurants in what they call 'ceremonial maximalism': oxblood reds, ebony leather, and deep wood tones channeling 1930s New York glamour. Two very different design philosophies in one building, and somehow it works.
