A 16-room clifftop boutique in Salvador's Rio Vermelho neighborhood, the Zank opened in 2007 inside a lovingly restored 1907 colonial mansion — then expanded into an adjoining modern wing. In 2014 it was acquired by the Pousada do Toque group, bringing a sharper culinary identity and added design flair. Shiny hardwood floors, white Egyptian cotton linens, and gauzy drapes framing huge Atlantic-facing picture windows set the scene. Art and furniture by Brazilian designers like Sergio Rodrigues and Paulo Mendes da Rocha are placed throughout, and the small library stocked with cordel literature is a genuinely personal touch you won't find at bigger properties.

The top-tier rooms at the Zank, and where the property really shines. Some occupy the restored 1907 casarão (the historic mansion), others are in the modern wing — both with contemporary décor. The key differentiator: a bathtub, either a deep-soak immersion tub or a jacuzzi, plus bathrobes and elevated bath amenities including salts and foam. Art and furniture by prominent Brazilian designers appear throughout these rooms.

Step up from Standard and you get meaningfully more floor space. These rooms sit in the modern wing of the property and each has its own personality. Same king-size bed and full amenity set, but the extra room to breathe makes a difference. Bathrooms have showers (not bathtubs).
