Good to Know
Build in Transit Buffers
Day 1 is concentrated in Mitte. On Day 2, allow roughly 20 minutes by U-Bahn from central Mitte to Kreuzberg or Neukölln. On Day 4, allow roughly 15-25 minutes between the government quarter, Kreuzberg, and Friedrichshain; do not schedule these transfers back-to-back.
Plan Around Sunday Closures
If one of these dates falls on Sunday, expect most shops and some markets to be closed. Favor museums, parks, cafés, restaurants, and the East Side Gallery, and complete grocery shopping on Saturday.
Use Transit Correctly
A single Berlin AB ticket covers U-Bahn, S-Bahn, buses, trams, and ferries. Paper tickets must be validated in the yellow machines before boarding; inspectors can issue a €60 fine.
Protect Valuables
Keep your bag in front of you at Alexanderplatz, Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate, East Side Gallery, and busy trains. Avoid leaving a phone on café tables, and do not visit Görlitzer Park after dark.
Follow Berlin Etiquette
Stay out of cycle lanes, separate recycling, return Pfand bottles where practical, and round up modestly when tipping. Drinking a beer outdoors or on public transport is generally normal, but punctuality and formal 'Sie' address are appreciated with strangers.
Reserve the Popular Meals
Reserve Jaja and Henne ahead when possible, especially for dinner. For market meals, keep the schedule flexible and use the stalls rather than adding a separate restaurant across town.
Keep Evenings Flexible
For nightlife, begin with dinner and a wine or pub stop in Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain, then decide whether to continue. Weekend public transport runs through the night, but late venues can have queues and changing door policies.
