Halal Strategy: Seafood & Veg Focus
Outside of a handful of halal-friendly places, most restaurants won’t have halal certification. Plan to rely heavily on seafood and vegetarian dishes, clearly telling staff you don’t eat pork or alcohol and asking if any meat stock or wine is used in sauces and paellas.
Car vs Public Transport
For this itinerary, renting a car for days 3–7 simplifies reaching Sóller, Deià, Mondragó, Porto Cristo and Alcúdia while keeping Palma days car-free. If you skip the car, you can still reach many spots by combining buses and the vintage train/tram but should allow extra travel time and perhaps drop one distant beach.
Book Key Activities Early
Reserve the Palma catamaran cruise and Cuevas del Drach tickets at least a week ahead in high season to lock in convenient times; everything else in this plan can usually be enjoyed just by showing up.
Sun & Heat Management
Plan beach and outdoor activities for mornings and late afternoons, keeping midday for lunches or shaded strolls. Always bring water, a hat, SPF 30+ sunscreen and a light cover-up, especially at exposed coves like Mondragó and Cala Deià.
Driving & Parking in Villages
In mountain villages like Deià and Sóller, roads are narrow and parking is limited—follow signs to public car parks at the village edge and walk the last few minutes instead of squeezing into tiny side streets.
Language & Politeness Basics
Spanish is widely spoken, with Mallorquí (Catalan) also common. Simple phrases like “hola,” “por favor,” “gracias,” and “no como cerdo” (I don’t eat pork) go a long way, and people generally appreciate the effort.
Cash, Cards and ATMs
Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Palma and larger towns, but carry €20–50 in cash for markets, beach kiosks, parking meters and small rural cafés. ATMs are easy to find in Palma and most bigger towns.
Pack for Wild & Urban
Bring comfortable walking shoes or sandals with good grip for cobblestones and cliff paths, a light scarf or shawl for modesty or wind, and one slightly dressier outfit each for nicer dinners in Palma.
