Good to Know
State Park Pass and Parking
Many Michigan beach and dune areas, including state parks, require either a daily recreation pass or a vehicle fee at parking lots; keep some cash or a card handy and plan to buy a day pass if your car isn’t already registered in-state.
Layer Up for Lake Breezes
Even in warm months, temperatures along Lake Michigan can drop quickly when the wind picks up, especially in the evening or after swimming, so pack a light windproof layer and dry clothes in your daypack.
Plan Transport Between Beach Towns
Saugatuck–Douglas, Fennville, and Holland are within about 30–45 minutes of each other by car, but public transit is limited, so having your own vehicle or a rental makes it much easier to link wineries, beaches, and trailheads in a smooth arc.
