Good to Know
Keeping Food Halal on Milos
Most tavernas on Milos are not halal-certified, but almost all offer plenty of seafood and vegetarian dishes. To keep things simple, avoid all meat (especially pork) and alcohol-based sauces, and focus on grilled fish, seafood, salads, vegetable dishes, and cheese-based meze. When in doubt, say clearly that you do not eat pork or meat and prefer fish and vegetables only.
Getting Around Without a Car
In summer, buses link Adamas with Plaka, Pollonia, and some beaches like Sarakiniko; schedules are posted at the main stops. For early-morning or sunset spots, or if buses are infrequent, taxis are reliable and can be arranged through your hotel; you rarely need to prebook far in advance on a weekend trip.
Sun and Wind Protection
The combination of strong sun, white rock, and wind can be intense, especially at Sarakiniko and on boat tours. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a light long-sleeve layer; on the boat, sit under shade when possible and drink water regularly.
Cash, Cards, and ATMs
Most mid-range restaurants and hotels accept cards, but small kiosks, bus tickets, and sunbed rentals may be cash-only. ATMs are available in Adamas and Pollonia; withdraw enough euros there before heading to more remote beaches and villages.
Simple Packing List for a Wild-Coast Trip
Pack quick-dry swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes or sturdy sandals for rocky entries, a light backpack, a power bank (connectivity is fine but outlets in rooms can be limited), and a light scarf or shawl for breezy evenings or visiting churches.
