Getting Around Moorea-Maiao

Public transport is extremely limited; for this loop from Opunohu Valley to Haapiti to Te’avaro/Temae and Cook’s Bay, rent a car or scooter and book in advance, especially if you need an automatic. The coastal ring road is about 60 km with light traffic, and most of your day’s stops are within a 15–20 minute drive of one another.

Know

Safety & Lagoon Conditions

Moorea is generally safe, but always lock your accommodation and avoid leaving valuables visible in parked cars. Currents in open channels can be deceptively strong, so for offshore snorkel spots, join a guided lagoon tour or hire a boat rather than swimming out from shore; inland and valley areas can have mosquitoes and dengue risk, so apply repellent regularly.
