Good to Know
What to Wear for Kayaking and Walking
For the kayak tour, wear quick-dry clothing, shoes that can get a bit wet (sport sandals or old sneakers), a light windbreaker, and bring a small dry bag if you want your phone on the water. For city walking and College Hill’s slopes, cushioned walking shoes and a light layer are ideal.
Booking & Timing for Tours
Reserve the Discover Providence walking tour, Downcity Food Tour, and kayak tour at least a few days ahead—weekends and nice-weather days can sell out. Aim for mid-morning starts for walks and earlier or later paddles in summer to avoid peak heat and bright midday glare in photos.
Getting Around Compact Neighborhoods
Base yourself near downtown so you can walk between Downcity, the riverfront, and College Hill in 10–20 minutes. Use rideshares only for the kayak launch if needed, and build in 20–30 minutes to stroll uphill to College Hill rather than rushing.
