Why It Matters
The estate has a legitimate claim to being the birthplace of mayonnaise — Marshal Richelieu is said to have tasted the sauce here on 22 April 1756. Beyond the culinary legend, it sits within a 250-hectare private natural reserve that functions as its own Biosphere Reserve buffer. The AlcaufART annual exhibition turns the property into one of Menorca's biggest group art shows.

An annual group art show — one of Menorca's largest — that transforms the hotel with paintings, sculpture, illustration, music, theatre and fashion from around 37 artists. The Modernist room at the heart of the event becomes a gallery. Dates vary each season.
