AlpenGold Hotel
Futuristic alpine luxury — contemporary European minimalism with Swiss precision and a dash of global cosmopolitanism. Think less cosy chalet, more design-forward mountain refuge.
After 18:00 the indoor pool area becomes adults-only — far more peaceful than the afternoon family rush.
Why It Matters
The building is widely known as the 'golden egg' of the Alps and is recognised as an architectural landmark. It is the primary WEF summit hotel. La Muña, the Peruvian-Japanese restaurant on the 10th floor, holds 14 GaultMillau points. Executive Chef Manuel Zünd competed with the Swiss national culinary team at the World Culinary Championships in Luxembourg. The hotel ranked among Switzerland's Top 8 Luxury Design & Lifestyle Resorts.
The AlpenGold opened in December 2013 with a design brief that nobody else in the Alps had dared attempt: a gleaming, oval gold-clad exterior inspired by a pine cone, sitting elevated above Lake Davos at 1,600 metres. Inside, it trades the expected chalet-wood clichés for soft, neutral tones, tactile furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a restrained material palette of natural stone and warm timber. All 216 rooms have a private balcony or terrace. It is also the main hotel supporting the annual World Economic Forum in January, which means stop-sale dates apply and minimum stays kick in during WEF week.
