arcana izu sits deep in the Yugashima valley of the Izu Peninsula, where the Kano River runs loud outside every window. It's a 16-room auberge that straddles two worlds: the ryokan tradition of immersive, nature-anchored rest and the French auberge concept of cuisine-first hospitality. Interior furnishings by Graf, the Osaka-based design firm, keep the aesthetic deliberately minimal — warm tones, natural materials, no televisions anywhere. The real showpiece is Lumiere, a 32-seat French restaurant where all tables face a floor-to-ceiling window into the forest, and where chef Yuma Itoi changes the menu every season and never repeats a dish.

River Terrace Suite
The terrace extends out toward the stream, making this feel like you're practically suspended above the river. Wake up to forest all around you. Smaller than the Wing or flagship Suite, but the orientation and outdoor bath still deliver the full arcana izu experience.

The entry-level room at the property, and still a suite by any reasonable measure. At just over 51 sqm it's the most compact option, but it still has the private outdoor onsen, the floor-to-ceiling forest view, premium bedding, and a personal butler. No indoor bathtub — shower booth only.

The widest river view of any room, thanks to a 10-meter-wide balcony that stretches out alongside the Kano River. This is also the only room at the property that can accommodate a third guest with an extra bed (extra charge applies). The private outdoor onsen sits right on that expansive balcony.

Staff recommend renting a car to explore the wider Izu Peninsula during the day. Nearby landmarks include Shuzenji Temple (historic), Chikurinnokomichi bamboo grove path, and Kajika no Yu (public hot spring, 500ft from the property).
Each of the 16 rooms has its own private open-air hot spring bath on the balcony, fed directly from the Yugashima hot spring source. Water is calcium-sodium sulfate at 8.3 pH (slightly alkaline). Soak while listening to the Kano River below.
The hotel sits directly above the Kano River. Guests can walk along the riverbanks and surrounding forest paths. The property itself is on a 4,814 sqm forested plot.
