Axiom Hotel
Tech-forward boutique with historic bones. Digital-age aesthetic layered over Edwardian architecture. Suited to remote workers, conference-goers, and anyone who wants Union Square access without a generic chain experience.

Why It Matters
LEED Silver certified. One of the few downtown SF hotels to deploy actual robot room service (via a bot named Astro). The building's 1906 post-earthquake architecture contrasts sharply with the deliberately tech-centric interior design. Formerly the Powell Hotel.
Axiom is a 152-room boutique hotel in a century-old building right across from the Powell Street cable car turnaround in Union Square. Previously known as the Powell Hotel, the 1906-era structure still has high ceilings, wrought-iron railings, white marble, and moulded walls — but the interior is all wired-up minimalist-chic: fiber optic WiFi, robot room service, and rooms named after units of digital data. It's one of San Francisco's more genuinely tech-forward hotels, not just in branding but in actual execution.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The Powell & Market cable car turnaround is literally steps from the front door. The Ride & Explore package pairs two 1-day Muni/cable car passes with a $20 gift card to The Buena Vista (famous for the original Irish Coffee at the cable car's final stop) and a Cable Car Museum souvenir patch.
The mezzanine-level Cloud Lounge has vintage arcade games and foosball. Open to hotel guests and the public. You can order food and drinks from Turn Café directly to your seat. The space holds up to 60 people for events. Record players are also available for checkout.
A small curated library in the hotel — the Hallidie Library — named after Andrew Hallidie, inventor of the cable car. Good for a quiet read or a moment away from screens.
The hotel has roughly 1,600 sq ft of event space across flexible rooms with high-speed fiber optic WiFi, integrated AV systems, and capacity for small conferences or gatherings. The Hub Rooms (1 and 2) and Cloud Lounge (up to 60 guests) are the primary event spaces.
Astro is the hotel's autonomous delivery robot. Order food and drinks from Turn Café and Astro brings them to your door — no human contact required. A genuine novelty that guests consistently call out as a highlight.
