A Victorian mansion built in 1885 and converted to a hotel in 1906, Casa Madrona sits on a hillside above downtown Sausalito with views across Richardson Bay toward San Francisco. The property spans three distinct wings — a historic Mansion, Hillside cottages, and a newer Contemporary building — giving it a layered, almost neighborhood-like feel. Inducted into Historic Hotels of America in 2024 and on the National Register of Historic Places, it's genuinely one of the more characterful places to stay in the Bay Area.

Hillside Cottage
The Hillside wing's cottages are each unique in layout and nautical design — no two are quite the same. Set along a hillside pathway, they feel more like private accommodations than a conventional hotel corridor. Some have fireplaces and full kitchens.
Hillside Cottage Guesthouse
More independent cottage-style accommodation on the Hillside, offering a guesthouse feel within the broader property.
Hillside Cottage Suite
Larger suite-configuration in the Hillside wing, with more living space than a standard cottage. Good option for a longer stay.
Hillside Cottage with Balcony
Hillside cottages with private balconies. A step up from the standard Hillside room — the balcony is where the real views happen. Note that some balconies have bay views while others look into the hillside greenery.
Mansion Deluxe Room
Rooms in the original 1885 Victorian Mansion — the most historically atmospheric wing of the property. Expect period details, individual character, and a residential feel. Access is by stairs only.
Mansion Junior Suite
Junior suite in the Victorian Mansion wing. More space than a Mansion Deluxe, with a genuine sense of historic grandeur. Stairs-only access applies.
Mansion Suite
Full suite in the historic Mansion — one of the property's most desirable room types for those who want the Victorian experience at its fullest. Stairs-only access.
The Alexandrite Suite
The property's flagship suite — and the one the hotel uses for weddings and exclusive events. It features a private office, personal fitness equipment, and a terrace with a fire pit overlooking the bay. The name alone has become synonymous with special-occasion stays in Sausalito.
