Faustino Gran
Aristocratic Mediterranean. Stone walls, arched ceilings, tiled floors, wrought-iron staircases. Minimalist furnishings with a warm natural palette that lets the 500-year-old bones of the buildings do the talking. Bougainvillea-draped patios, a cave-vault spa, and a farm estate outside of town complete the picture.
Book a Suite with Terrace or the Two Bedroom Suite if you want harbour and cathedral views — the lower-category rooms face gardens and are pleasant but miss the wow factor.
Why It Matters
One of the very few Relais & Châteaux properties on Minorca — an island that deliberately keeps mass tourism at bay. The hotel operates across three genuinely historic palaces, employs Clefs d'Or concierges, has paintings by Meilleur Ouvrier de France artist Delphine Nény, and runs its own sailing boats and a working kitchen garden estate called Casa de Pau. It's the most complete luxury operation on the island.
Three aristocratic palaces — Can Faustino (16th century), Cal Bisbe (17th century), and Can Sebastià (19th century) — stitched together into one Relais & Châteaux property right in the old town of Ciutadella. It's the kind of place where you can walk out the front door and straight into a cobblestoned medina-like quarter, with the port just opposite and Menorca Cathedral a two-minute stroll away. Rooms vary wildly by building and category, so the experience you get depends heavily on which one you land in — the top suites look out over rooftops, harbour and sea, while standard rooms are pleasant but not flashy.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel offers pre-arranged private transfers from Mahón Airport (up to 4 passengers with luggage) and can organise island excursions. Clefs d'Or concierges coordinate all logistics.
The hotel's 15-hectare pine-forest estate sits outside Ciutadella near the sea, with its own pool, sun terrace, working vegetable farm, and access to the secret cove of Ses Fontanelles. Guests are driven out in a vintage 1979 Land Rover Santana for swimming, water sports, picnics, or just reading in a preserved natural environment within a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
The 19th-century Can Sebastià palace, with its monumental staircase and private library, hosts musical and cultural events for hotel guests.
A visit to the Casa de Pau farm where the restaurant's produce is grown. Guests can see what's harvested and have it cooked into a meal on the spot.
The hotel operates classic private sailing yachts (including one named Heloise) that take guests along the coast to secluded coves well away from crowded areas. It's the standout experience that guests consistently mention — the chance to reach beaches that aren't accessible by road. Contact the concierge to arrange.
The hidden cove adjacent to Casa de Pau is accessible for swimming, snorkelling, and other water sports. Transfer from the estate to the cove is in the hotel's vintage Land Rover.
