The destination charge ($25/night) is mandatory but covers a daily $25 food and beverage credit usable at Henry's — so lean into dinner or drinks at the pub and it effectively zeroes out

Why It Matters

One of the most historically significant hotels in Berkeley, built in 1928 and listed on the Berkeley Register of Historic Places. The Graduate Hotels renovation transformed it from a faded classic into one of the more visually distinctive boutique hotels in the Bay Area — the kind of place UC Berkeley parents return to every Parents Weekend. Henry's pub downstairs has been a neighborhood sports-night institution for decades.

A 1928 Spanish Colonial landmark one block from UC Berkeley's campus, this 144-room hotel has always been part of the neighborhood's fabric — it was named after Henry Durant, the university's first president. Graduate Hotels bought it in 2015, gutted the lobby, and leaned hard into the Cal identity: bongs repurposed as bedside lamps, dictionary-covered shower curtains, over 8,500 National Geographic issues lining the reception wall, and a large pop-art painting of Marshawn Lynch as a near-immediate greeting. Hilton acquired the brand in May 2024, so it now earns Hilton Honors points.

Pop Culture Suite

The Graduate brand's signature immersive suites, themed around pop culture references specific to the location. At Berkeley, this translates to deeper Cal and counterculture iconography. Expect a step up in room design drama from the standard rooms.

Standard Guest Room

The entry-level rooms channel UC Berkeley's identity hard: bold blue and gold patterns, vintage-style rugs, art inspired by counterculture icons and mascot Oski, and the brand's signature touches like dictionary-covered shower curtains. Flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, work desk, and in-room safe are standard. Some rooms are on the smaller side — this is a 1928 building.
